Chapter 4
Chapter-3
Among the very cold breezes of December 24, Sami-Guddu’s marriage took place. Sami’s mother was happy since without much dowry she was going to marry her daughter with a no home, no proper job and majorly with a clumsy man of no moral and ethical values. It would be better for Sami, if she put her into fire instead of marriage. Gucchhan was unaware about the living place of Guddu since he didn’t bother to peep into the proper investigation about Guddu’s past. Instead his eyes were covered with a cloth of dreams, wrapped by the sisters of Maqsood. By the half empty stomach Sami went into the ‘Barat’s bus for Beriwala-Bagh, Delhi-06.
The atmosphere of the house
was horrible. Almost four to five families lived there with their rat like
children. And in the cold night Sami stayed in a room that had curtains made up
of old ‘Bori’. Evidently these curtains were unable to stop the cold breezes.
Not only this, everyone live in an indiscipline manner. Sami had to stay there
for some days, then she went to live with her father-in-law along with Guddu in
a rental house. But there also after some disputes, due to the drunkenness
nature of Maqsood, Sami and Guddu got separated from him and shifted to Guddu’s
‘Nana’s’ house. Though he was not the real ‘Nana’ of Guddu , he was like
brother of Guddu’s ‘Nani’ in long relation.
Then Sami and Guddu went to
live in the Nana’s house. Soon the man recognised that Guddu was a clumsy
person, who didn’t want to do any work. As a result the couple came into the
rent depth of three month. But instead of become rude the man was very kind
towards Sami. He brought monthly grocery and food material for them. And one
day he was ready to take back all his kindness with interest but even more than
that. He went into the room where Sami was sleeping all alone and what was
going to happen in the room? Nineteen years old Sami was totally unaware. She
couldn’t imagine that the man to whom she called Nana, the man who was her
father-in-law maternally, could take her pride, able to destroy her whole life,
able to defame her, able to ruin her belief upon relations. And all this
happened when she was raped by that guy. Within the six months of her marriage,
Sami faced something that completely crushed her from inside. But she was quite
she didn’t tell about the incident to anyone. She was quite, not had any
courage to go to Police and complained about the man. Since she had a fear of
losing her family pride. What everyone said about her? Her father would commit
suicide if he would came to know about it. All such thoughts resisted Sami to
do any action. She kept her secret with herself only, not share anyone even
with Guddu. After sometime they quietly changed the house and death came for
the old man.
After that the love for Guddu
began to shatter away from the heart of Sami. They moved to a new place of
living, but mutual understanding between them was not there. And then yelling
sound of domestic violence from there house was common to their neighbours.
According to Sami. Guddu didn’t understand her. He refused, when she insisted
to complete her graduation and then appoint in Defence forces or become an Urdu
teacher. Guddu most of the time caught among his friends doing gossips, playing
cricket and roaming here and there. On investigating he said that he didn’t had
any work to do. And then finally Sami decided to go to her father’s house in
Rampur. Here also Guddu had a deal with Guchan, that he work in Delhi, save
money and then buy a personal house in between Sami used to live with them and
do work as well. Hence Sami began to live there, she got appointed in ‘Joly’
factory of Rampur. In between Guchan married Chaman at the age of sixteen with
the son of Maqsood’s sister, Suhail fazal. Thogh he knew that his father, Fazal
Masih, was a catholic Cristian. But his mother opted to be a Muslim. And then
after a year Chaman gave birth to a girl child named Nida. Chaman had a good
marriage life although there was some dispute between her and her mother-in-law.
But as compared to Sami she was in good position. She had her own house, her
own clothing, lived as a home maker only and Suhail too loved her very much.
Sami’s life was becoming worse
and worse day by day. Guddu came there stayed for many days and when Sami told
him to go back to Delhi and do work. He began to quarrel and demanded money for
the fair of train and himself as well. Sami had to do so, since she had a fear
that the man who picked up his father’s collar, what do with her father if he
come in her defence.
In this way Sami resisted her temptation for having a stable and happy married life. Guddu came there every month took money from her and moved to Delhi. But one day Sami’s mother came to know about the matter. “Kambakhat tu to kama kama ke khasam ko de de aur duniya soche baap beti ki kamai kha raha hai”. She packed up Sami’s cloth and commanded her to leave her father’s house to go some where else. “Apne khasam ke pas ja ,ya kahi jake marja lekin dobara is chokhat pe mat aaiyo”. The house where Sami enjoyed her childhood, was closed for her. The parents for whose pride and social status Sami continued her ordeal marriage life, were not ready to listen her. And hence With a trunk and her desperate hopes, Sami ,moved to railway station get into Inter-city Express for Delhi.
