THE BOOTSTRAP PARADOX
“The distinction between the past,
present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion”
-Albert Einstein
Time or
‘Samay’, what is it? Is there its identity exist in this physical world? Or its
just an illusion? We all people experience all time and also we have various
methods to experience the passage of time. But what is time in reality? It is a
debatable topic, which is very wide. Normally, the progression of an event from
its past to present and present to future, known as time. If we see it in terms
of physics than time is the fourth dimension of our reality, which we use to
describe any event in our three dimensional space-time. It is a broad and
debatable topic, which is very wide. So we shall cover it in future.
Now let’s
come to the topic. Normally we all know that the flow of time is linear and
moves forward always in one direction that is, past then present and then you
all know, future. Also we get to know from this, that our past influence our
present and present influence our future.
So we are
clear that any event, which is happening in present ultimately affect our
future. But in this model of time our future can’t affect our present. Now what
happens, if we can move in past through time-travel? Does the things still
remain same? Definitely not.
Actually
when we think about travelling to our past, then we face many paradoxes. Due to
this most of the scientist thought, that it is impossible to travel in past.
‘Bootstrap
paradox’ is such a paradox.
Any object,
person, idea or thought, goes in past via Time-Travel, if struck in an endless
loop, where we are able to know that it exists in reality, but becomes
impossible for us to identify its true origin. Then such scenario is called
Bootstrap Paradox.
Netflix series
(Based on Bootstrap Paradox)-Dark’s dialogue:
Where is the
beginning?
When is the
beginning?
Is there a
beginning at all?
Let’s say
time travel exists, could the past really be changed?
Now we know
moving towards past crates many paradoxes. Let’s talk about ‘Pre-destination
Paradox’, which is related to ‘Bootstrap Paradox’. According to this, we can’t
change which has already been happened. That is we can’t change any event of
past. Now if we try to attempt so, then we’ll find that unknowingly we trigger
the same event, for which we came in past. All of our attempts to change the
event will become the reason of happening for that event.
Example-
Time Machine (movie)
Also, we can
change the event of past, but it can only be possible if parallel universe
exist. And whenever we try to change past event, then it should give birth to a
different timeline. It is also based on Schrodinger Cat experiment or
Multiverse theory.
